Stray dog feeding
Judgements of Supreme Court of India on stray dogs :-
1 . In late July, the Supreme Court Of India took suo moto cognizance of a news report highlighting the alarming rise in rabies causes and deaths, particularly the children and elderly due to stray dog bites in and around Delhi. The court termed the issue “ Deeply disturbing “ and had flagged the failure of civic authorities to control the situation. The supreme Court of India has issued recent orders (2025) directing Municipalities to remove stray dogs from institutional areas ( schools, hospitals, stations etc. ]
2 . Authorities must remove all stray animals, including cattle, from highways and relocate them to shelters.
3 . According to data shared by union minister S P singh Baghel in the parliament on July 22 , the total number of dog bites cases stood at 37,17,336 (2024).
4 . In 2023 ABC (Animal Birth Control)rule was established . This was based on CNVR (catch – Neuter – Vaccinate – Release) approach . This approach was widely supported by animal welfare bodies to gradually reduce population over year.
Recent Cases of dog bites
1 . A national level Gold medalists Uttar pradesh kabaddi player named Brijesh Solanki died after puppy scratch in 2025 .
2 . Lucknow (U P) woman mauled to death by her pet dog Pitbull ( 2024) .
My personal opinion on supreme Court judgement on stray dogs.
I personally do not support stray dogs. Because they attacked on my husband while he was on the way for his duty. But fortunately he got only scratches and took vaccines on time. A dog near by my house also attacked on my son.
I am not against the saving and feeding of the dogs. But they have large numbers. Some comes in streets and accidents cause. So, they should be vaccinated or either relocated in the dogs shelter home.
