1. NEEM: THE WONDER TREE 

Botanical name : – 

Azadirachta indica

Family : – Meliaceae

Found: – 

Neem has been planted in many parts of Asia. Such as -India, Bangladesh, Burma, Nepal, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, shri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Vietnam. 

It grows vigorously in many types of Semiarid and tropical areas. Also grown in parts of South East Asia, tropical and subtropical areas. 

Soil – sandy soil is required. It is deep penetrating tree. It is an Evergreen tree.

 Fruits :- Fruits are green drupes at it’s early stage which turn into golden yellow after ripening in the month of June – August. 

Flowers :- Flowers are white in color and little fragrant. Flowers are  Protoandrous, bisexual.

Leaves :-  Leaves arrangement is pinnate type. 

 Means leaves looks like feathers of birds. 

Height :-  Height up to  15 m to 20 m ( 49 feet to 60 feet) adult tree. 

2. ABOUT THE TREE:-  

It is a drought resistant and Evergreen Tree. It is found in abundance.

It is already regarded as a valuable forestry species in both Hindustan  and parts of Africa. The tree shed their leaves only under extreme heat and drought ( but only for a short time) because it’s root penetrate deep in the soil in search of water. Means it’s roots girth is 2 – 3 cm per year in the soil. 

3. BENEFITS AND USES OF NEEM TREE:-

 The  tree is considered as ” A tree for solving Global problems “. 

Used in Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy for the treatment of many infectious , Metabolic as well as Cancer disease.

Nature of Neem tree is :- 

Anticarcinogenic, Antiulcer,  Antiseptic,  Antioxidant,  Antiviral, Anti-inflammatory,  Antimalarial, Antiworm, Anticlotting, Antifertility, Antibacterial, Antiparasitic, Antihyperglycemic, Antimicrobial,  Blood detoxifying , Boils, Pimples, Eye diseases, Anti periodontic, Spermicidal, Immunomodulatory, Diuretic, skin diseases etc. 

It is traditional medicine used from centuries in Hindustan. 

1. Leaves are used in treatment of skin diseases and rheumatism in a paste form . 

2. Used as a tea to improve immunity of the body. 

3. Twigs are used as dental hygiene or teeth cleaning agent

4 . Dried Seeds are crushed to produce oil which is used as medicine  , cosmetics, and also as a pesticides for plants. 

5 . Uses as insects repellent. 

6.  Prevent termites attacks. 

7 . Neem cake can be used as Natural Fertilizer. 

8 . Natural pesticides. 

9.  It’s leaves and flowers are used in cooking also. Example – Begun neem bhaja  ,  Aaloo  neem torkari is very famous in Bengal.  It is very healthy and can acts as an appetizer. Bengali eat them with rice.

Neem pakoda is served in hotels and dhabas in kolkata. 

10. Claimed effective against COVID-19 also. 

Various religious documents also  mention and supports the medicinal role of the tree in health care and prevention.

11 . 140 compounds have been isolated from different parts of neem.

4. TOXICITY AND HARMFUL EFFECTS:-

1. The oil has ability to cause some forms of toxic Encephalopathy and ophthalmopathy if consumed in quantities exceeding 150 ml. ( According to American journal of Neuroradiology). 

2 . Avoid in breastfeeding. 

3 . It can increase the symptoms of auto- immune diseases because over consumption is harmful. 

4 . It may cause miscarriages. 

5 . It can leads to infertility and low blood sugar. 

6 . Long term use may cause liver problems and can harm kidney . 

5. AS AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTAL GROWTH:-

1. The tree are Excellent for  parks, streets, villages, roadside, courtyard, shelterbelt and almost any place where some relief from the sun would be provided. It is a useful windbreaker in cities. 

2. Planting neem on a large scale can also improve the declining Ecosystem. Example – Haiti

3. Can act as flood resistant and prevents soil erosion. 

4 . It’s seed cake is good for natural fertilizer. This fertilizer contains Nitrogen, Potash, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Calcium. 

5 . This tree is  called as Farmer’s friend because of it’s market profit and income generated tree. It is easy to grow. 

6 . Best option for Reafforestation. 

7 . India has about 18 millions trees and Uttar pradesh is the highest producer of Neem tree. 

8 .  In New Delhi , many roads appears very beautiful by the grace of this Neem tree. This gives a pleasant scenic beauty. The trees are spreading on the both sides of the road  of Uttar pradesh and New Delhi gives green vives and thick green canopy that saves people from the fierce of sun.

FAQ……… 

1 . How can I use bark of neem in treatment of skin disease? 

Ans:- Bark of neem tree is  bitter in taste. But because of it’s Antiseptic properties it is uses. 3-4 cm size of bark can be boil in water and can we consumed as kadha. But shoul be consumed in moderate amount on the prescribed practitioners. 

2 . Can I use neem in bathing as an antiseptic? 

Ans:- yes, it can be used.  Handful of neem leaves can be put in water over night and this water can be used as Antiseptic in bathing and can be drink also. But only 5 ml to 10 ml on the prescribed practitioner. 

3 . Benefits of neem twigs. 

Ans:-  Neem twigs is used as brush. Other twigs can be used for brush is Babul. 

Neem twigs helps in reducing pain and Pyorrhea . 

4 . Can i consume neem leaves without any disease? 

Ans :- It can be used. When I was child I used to see My grandfather (nana ji) consume only 5 -6  neem leaves  in every weeks for only one month. Whenever I asked him, he told me it keeps us away from many diseases.
